Bernard Tomic Thanks All Australians
Hey Australia
In case you hadn't heard, I set a new world record today and I couldn't have done it without you.
At the Sony Open in Miami, I played in the fastest match in ATP history! What an achievement.
The fact I lost the match is neither here nor there. Just being part of this historic occasion is something I’ll always be proud of.
The final score was 6-0, 6-1 and it was over in 28 minutes and 20 seconds. That’s a minute faster than the previous record!
It took all of my character and fighting spirit to win just one point in the first five games of the match and 13 in total.
That’s not something everyone could do. They’d be many amateur players that couldn't lose a match that quickly.
My little toe was sore at one point and I even considered retiring hurt. I’m so glad I didn't!
I guess though, when you look at my career, I've been building towards something like this for a long time.
There can be no doubt my training regime has been a big part of this result, as is my work ethic.
I should also credit the location. Miami is just the sort of place for a guy like me to not focus on my tennis.
Anyway, I want to thank all of you back in Australia. The way you all don’t get behind me and even actively dislike me has played a part in this new world record.
Thanks Australia!
