Why the Cronulla Sharks decision has massive ramifications for Essendon. Or doesn’t.

The decision by the majority of past and present Cronulla Sharks players to accept an ASADA deal and admit to taking banned peptides, could have huge ramifications for the Essendon Football Club.

It could also have no impact at all.

On this, a day that will go down as ‘A slightly overcast day in Australia sport’, we need to wildly speculate about how this will impact Essendon and the AFL.

The fact I have absolutely no clue as to the way these things work, will not stop me from floating some truly shocking implications of the Cronulla deal.

Essendon players will now be under enormous pressure to accept any deal put to them or they could not be. I’m not really sure.

I asked a guy at work and he thought it would, but explained he was just here to water the pot plants and was kind of in a hurry.

What I can reveal, is that the deal on the table for Essendon is either harsher or better than the Cronulla one. There could also not be a deal on the table at all.

Either way, Bomber fans have every right to be angry about stuff.

The Cronulla/ASADA deal also shows how much the AFL have mishandled this entire situation, or maybe there are significant differences between the two situations that I’m unaware of and are too nuanced for me to understand.

Either way, I’m sure there is a lot of evidence and legal issues that I am both unaware of and am incapable of understanding.

However, let me be clear, the Essendon saga shows no sign of going away and today’s events could possibly influence it or could turn out to be completely unrelated.

Whatever the outcome, I’m sure that one of the numerous points in this column will be proven right.
