A study by the Australian Media Centre (AMS) has revealed a significant majority of the football media is now just talking about other figures in the footy media.
An astounding 75 percent of football media coverage is now spent focusing on what other football media is saying, up ten percent from the year before.
“Of that 75 percent, we found half of that was score-settling between footy commentators; a quarter was getting on the moral high horse about something another outlet or commentator had said and a quarter defending someone for saying something stupid because they’re a ‘good bloke’,” Adjunct Professor AMC Sarah Evans said.
“The remaining 25 percent was a discussion about the actual sport, punctuated with sprinklings of racism or sexism.”
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said while high profile media commentators were obviously mostly interested in themselves, they should try to cover the code occasionally.
“Who doesn’t want to listen to several days of footy identities with chequered histories of their own tut-tut about what another one has done?”
“Or them circling the waggon around a mate even if they’ve done a similar thing?”
AFL fan Simone Blackmon said she wished she was as interested in the footy media as they were with each other.
“I tune in to find out what’s happening in the footy.”
“I guess listening to them all bang on is like paying a toll when you use a bridge; annoying but you have to do it to get where you want to go.
“Even second rate satirists are now writing pieces on how the footy media just talk about footy media.”

I seriously don't know if this is a real article or satire.

If someone from the media comments on this article, it's end of days.

Spot on Titus. For some reason in the West lately the top 'sport' article seems to be 'Garry Lyon says the Eagles suck', followed by some other commentator endorsing his comments.

PMSL with the last line.
If all those other first-rate idiots can keep a second rate satirist idiot in material, go for it.

Instead of media cannibalising each other, it's more like they're vomiting each other up.

The sad thing is this isn't funny - it's true. Wayne Carey gets paid for the dribble the comes out of his mouth. Bit like Polpot commenting on the flaws in the justice system

That's because the AFL is the ultimate boys clubs, perpetually employing ex players who have little to no communication, media or broadcast skills. Meanwhile, all forms of journalism are dying. But hey, ex-players can get on with something after their playing days because all they did was focus on playing football 24-7 for 12-15 years.

75% must be an average because for commentaters such as BT and Derm it is 100% about them.

Also thought this was a real article at first. Would not be surprised if that percentage was correct.

Gold Titus. AFL 360 is the gold standard for this. By Wednesday they're really just discussing the same thing they were on Monday but it's just discussing someone else's opinion of the same topic.
