Ross Lyon: I can lead Dockers to almost winning Premiership again

Ross Lyon has reacted to Fremantle’s poor start by assuring Dockers fans that he can again take a team to falling just short of a premiership.

“I’ve got faith in our processes, our list management and my coaching ability to ensure Fremantle lose a Grand Final before the end of my contract,” said Lyon.

“It hasn’t been a great start but building a team capable of almost winning a premiership takes time. Rest assured, our aim is to nearly deliver a flag to long-suffering Dockers fans.”

Fremantle player Zac Dawson has backed Lyon as the man to get the club agonisingly close to a Premiership.

“Ross has the game plan that can get you almost all the way,” said Dawson.

“We as a club have all bought into Project Bridesmaid, as we’re calling it, and I’m teaching the younger guys how to be almost good enough.”

Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe said he hoped to play in Fremantle’s next Grand Final.

“Not for them, for the winning team. I’m really excited.”

Hayden Ballantyne has another name for it, the "reverse Steven Bradbury", instead of everyone else falling over, you commit Seppuku inches away from the finish line.

Did Ross Lyon run over your puppy when you were a kid?

Groundhog Day for Freo fans. Funny watching but a living hell if you're one.

Ross says "It's not ideal finishing runner up, but if you win the flag what's left to strive for?"

Making a grand final would rank the Dockers above 16 other teams. How's that going to happen?

Penultimate successful club culture isn't as easy as Rossy makes it look...

Freo is like the Dees used to be but aren't anymore but can be some quarters but at least they can now win with 7 minutes of football, a few brain injuries to the opposition and get good support off the loving public due to the no names tag which Freo also now has, D Tucker, C Sutcliffe, C Blakey,e Langdon....??? Griffen is now a regular but I couldn't pick him out in a line up......hmmm? Problem is?, you have to rebuild and play worse to make sure you don't get into a Kreuzer Cup situation..Jack Watts awaits....

Usually your anti-Freo stuff is a bit too vitriolic but that Fyfe joke was a pearler. Good stuff.

This comment has nothing to do with the above. But I thought it would be interesting for you to know that a Sri Lanka n under 19 team has been playing the Tassie 2 team for the past three days at the Oval adjacent to my retirement village. It's also typical that this has received no comment in our local paper. The Visiting boys have been a great pleasure for me to watch.natural athletes. Onlookers have been fairly sparse

Freo will have many more one club champions who will never win a flag with Ross and his ability to generate long term contracts with his history of no obvious results.
