Paul Roos: Big gap between our ‘terrible’ and our ‘beyond awful’

Following their loss to an understrength Essendon, Paul Roos said the gap between Melbourne’s ‘terrible’ and its ‘beyond awful,’ is too big.

“When we’re playing terribly, we can just beat a team who has actually placed bets against themselves,” said Roos.

“Yet when we’re playing beyond awful footy, we can lose a game to a team filled with AFL rejects.

“We got outworked by people wearing numbers in the seventies on their backs.”

Long term Demons fans Sebastian Ravenhall the third, said Friday’s loss proved the long held theory that you could ‘pick a bunch of blokes off the street and beat Melbourne.’

“I thought I’d seen it all in the Neeld years but they just invented new ways to be inept.”

“I used to think I’d see a Melbourne premiership before I died but that’s looking very unlikely now. I should add that I’m twelve years old and in perfect health.”

Stand out Melbourne player in the loss Heritier Lumumba, said he was actually feeling pretty mellow after the loss.

“That could have been from passively inhaling marijuana though. Has any one got some pizza shapes?”

How does it feel to know your AFL team might be competitive in the VFA?
Only competitive?
That's where Melbourne are on this result.
I'd expect they will have better games than this ... but Melbourne have to be grateful there is not a relegation system.
And it feels worse when so-so Melbourne players people leave for other clubs and magically play better.
But you have to ask - between CEO, coach, finances and high draft picks - how many more things can be fixed before you see improvement on the field?
On the bright side - I remember Hawthorn being absolutely awful 2004, 2005. Sydney were awful in the early 1990s. Turnarounds into finals can happen. Premierships usually take longer though.
