North Melbourne confident they can miss top eight

North Melbourne say they are ‘extremely confident’ they can miss the top eight but admit they’re disappointed their destiny is not in their own hands.

To miss the top eight, North must lose their final two games against Sydney and Greater Western Sydney while Melbourne must also defeat Carlton and Geelong.

North Melbourne chairman James Brayshaw says they’ve set themselves a goal and Brad Scott certainly had the game plan and team in place to make it happen.

“I don’t think there’s a better person to miss the eight from the position we were in, than Brad Scott. What he’s on the cusp of is historic.”

“We know that we can only focus on what we can control and we’re confident this team can lose and lose convincingly to the Swans and Giants.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed we hadn’t already ruled ourselves out of finals but the dream is still alive and we’ll do our bit, we just hope Melbourne can do theirs.”

North veteran Brent Harvey said while the playing group had the self-belief not to play finals, they weren’t confident in results going their way.

“Relying on Melbourne is always a worry. They’ll probably lose to Carlton and beat Geelong.”

“At least we’ve given this a real shot but we made things hard with that fast start to the season.

“In hindsight, that was a mistake.”
