The AFL’s Match Review Panel (MRP) has suspended Darcy Moore for three weeks, following an incident in which he cleaned up the LED boundary advertising.

Moore can accept a two-week sanction with an early plea.

The incident occurred during the second quarter of Friday night’s match against the Bulldogs and the advertising sign required several minutes attention after the clash but managed to see the game out.

AFL Football Operations Manager Mark Evans said that based on the available video evidence and a medical report, the MRP has graded the incident careless conduct with high impact to the LED advertising board.

“We have a duty to protect our wonderful sponsors. We’ve said all along that the stadium signage is sacrosanct and make no apology about that,” said Evans.

“Thankfully the sign is OK but it was a horrific moment, real heart in mouth stuff.

“I popped in and saw the advertising board today and it’s fine but it was more good luck than anything else.”

Collingwood Director of Football Neil Balme said the club was disappointed with the decision due to the sign being ‘an inanimate object’.

“Look, it doesn’t surprise me that the AFL put revenue before players but it is disappointing.”

“Losing Moore for a couple of games probably puts in doubt out chances of finishing in the top twelve.”

Mr Evans said the AFL would look at more ways to protect stadium signage for next season.

“A trench and some barbed wire may make players be a bit more careful.”
