Matthew Finnis Writes an Open Letter to Saints Supporters

Dear Saints Faithful

The moment I was appointed St Kilda’s new CEO, I knew what I needed to do. Write an open letter.

I’ve watched how many Paul Little has had to write recently and this being St Kilda, I knew I would need all the practice I could get.

It’s exciting to think all the possible things I could end up writing open letters about in this gig. Watch this space Saints fans.

I’m not too sure what to put in this particular open letter. Nothing exciting seems to be happening off the field at the moment (touch wood) or on the field for that matter.

To begin, I want to say I’m excited to take up this role. I have always wanted to work in issues and crisis management.

I guess the main thing to confirm is that St Kilda will be fielding a team in the AFL this season.

We’ve managed to cobble together a list that will make it out onto the ground each week. Some of the younger guys should be able to get us through the banner.

A few people had a look at the list and thought it was our VFL affiliate, so I can see where the confusion came from.

We also have a lot of faith in out new coach, that guy Kochie got so angry about. He’ll last the year most likely, as we can’t afford to pay out another one.

As to my vision for the club, it’s to protect the wonderful culture we have here at St Kilda.

It’s a culture built on the spirit of that year we won the Premiership a long time ago, Tony Lockett, Molly Meldrum and an insularity that makes North Korea seem more open than Casey Donovan’s autobiography.

I’m hoping to meet as many St Kilda fans as possible this year. Obviously not many of you will be coming to games, so text me and we can have a coffee or something.

Regards

Matthew Finnis
