Collingwood: Stop writing off Buckley until at least round three

Magpies President Eddie McGuire has asked media and football fans to stop writing off Nathan Buckley until after round three.

“I’ve heard all this talk of Nathan being in trouble and it’s ridiculous. We’re weeks or five hamstring injuries away from that,” said McGuire.

“We at Collingwood will stand side by side with Nathan throughout the NAB Challenge and until we lose to St Kilda.”

McGuire went on to say something negative about Sydney and Mick Malthouse but I’d zoned out.

The Collingwood hierarchy believes Buckley has met his preseason goal of ‘not beginning the season with almost everyone injured.’

Collingwood CEO Gary Pert said firing Nathan would be akin to ‘admitting Eddie was wrong’ and therefore could never happen.

“Going from Malthouse to Buckley has worked on every single level but football. It was and is a masterstroke.”

“There’s no doubt that we’re going in the right direction. When Nathan can attract recruits like Jesse White and Travis Varcoe, you know you’re heading in the right direction.”

Twav would make a great replacement coach....on field coach ....he knows they need a decent power forward.

Pies are in some trouble this year.
I expect Beams has been covered, there is good young midfield talent there.
But the weaknesses at each end still look present.
If Reid can stay fit that will help stop them leaking big scores. They will miss Maxwell.
But the forward line does not move enough to make defenders guess. Stop Cloke and you win.
Pies have plenty of small forwards, they are short a performing mobile tall forward, and forward structure lacks movement and angles which Geelong do very well. And I saw this in games that they won against weaker opposition. Much worse against quality teams.
If they can't fix each end then I can't see them making finals without a lot of luck.
And what Eddie was thinking "oh we could pinch the flag" ... only if we can do a Bradbury.
