AFL does two sensible things in a row
In an unprecedented move that has shocked experts and left fans bewildered, the AFL has done two sensible things in a row, a fan friendly 2015 season draw and returning kick-to-kick to the MCG.
“I think it’s been more by accident than design,” said AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan.
“I really hope it doesn’t become a trend. Doing sensible things all the time is a sure fire way to get zero media coverage.”
Long-time Carlton fan Wayne Houghton, said the outbreak of common sense had thrown his entire worldview on its ear.
“Blaming the AFL for ruining the game and most of my life, has been kind of my thing for almost fifty years,” said the out-of-work orthodontist.
“If they start getting everything right, I basically have no reason to get up in the morning. What do I complain to people about? Politics? Global cooling? It’s not the same.
“Still, I guess I can always blame Channel Seven or James Hird for a lot of things. Mainly my arthritis.”
AFL Chairman Mike Fitzpatrick said the Commission was ‘deeply concerned’ by the direction the competition had suddenly taken.
“If we continue on this path, they’ll be no games at ANZ Stadium. That can’t be allowed to happen.”
“Luckily, we’re about to announce four more expansion teams, three in Western Sydney and one in the Maldives. In fact, I’m about to catch a plane to the Maldives on an AFL funded fact finding mission.”
Mt Fitzpatrick said he was confident Gillon McLachlan would discover his own style of making decisions that made no sense.
“You have to remember that it took a little while until Andrew lost all his common sense. He worked hard at losing touch with the fans and only then did he make his best terrible decisions.”
Football media organisations across TV, radio, online and print have all signed off on a letter to the AFL pleading for the sensibleness to stop.
In the letter they explain there is only so much golf and tennis people can stand and You Tube only provides so many funny sporting videos a day.
Gillon McLachlan said it was important for people to not overreact to just two decisions.
“We’re still doing International Rules, the game is in Standard Definition and chips are still going to be the price of a medium-sized aircraft.”
