The AFL Commission’s Investigation Terms of Reference
The AFL has recently announced a Commission-led investigation into how they handled the Essendon Supplements Saga.
Keen to dismiss accusations that investigating yourself is beyond pointless, the AFL have released the investigation’s terms of reference.
These very clearly show that the AFL Commission is keen to thoroughly investigate this issue.
The Terms of Reference:
- Thoroughly investigate all the ways this was Essendon's fault
- Identify all the ways Andrew Demetriou handled this really well
- Establish how much blame can be pinned on James Hird, how much of Essendon's Board and Executive and how much Tania Hird
- Exonerate all the other AFL clubs
- Show how Mike Fitzpatrick was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G
- Find some criticism of the AFL that is both minor and actually seems like positives. Like in a job interview when you're asked what your weakness is and you say 'working too hard' or 'caring too much.'
- Find comparisons which show that while the AFL have been open and transparent, other codes, specifically the NRL, are secretive and covering up lots of stuff
- Clear identify how Essendon leaked information to the media throughout last year, while the AFL did everything by the book and never leaked. Never ever.
- Report findings which undermine any future negotiating position for Paul Little
- Blame the media for some stuff
- Blame ASADA for lots of stuff
There you have it. I want to commend the AFL for such a transparent review. I look forward to reading the interim report in a few decades from now.
