NFL: We are totally doing stuff about Ray Rice now

The NFL says the emergence of a video showing Baltimore Ravens star running back Ray Rice knocking his partner, Janay Palmer unconscious, means they will now ‘totally do some stuff.’

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league has shown it has the ability to spectacularly mishandle cases such as this.

“When I saw this second video, I indefinitely suspended Ray Rice,” he said.

“That’s a pretty strong response, if you forget the fact Baltimore had already sacked him and a previous video released in February showed Rice dragging an unconscious Palmer out of an elevator,” said Mr Godell.

“I’m incredibly proud of the way we’re now acting like we really care about this stuff.

“Too often this sort of stuff gets swept under the carpet. That’s not the case here, after TMZ has released a video that prevents us doing that.”

The NFL said they have taken a leadership position on how not to handle domestic violence issues.

“I like to think we’ve really set the standard of how not to handle these things,” said Mr Goodell.

“I’ve personally taken a very strong stance to ensure we have managed this whole incident so poorly that it’s truly unbelievable.”

Mr Goodell said he would not hesitate to indefinitely suspend any other player who has two videos emerge of them committing an act of violence.

“Our new ‘two videos and you’re out’ policy sends a strong message to every player to not do this sort of stuff, especially where there‘s a chance it can damage the NFL brand.”

The NFL said it would continue to pay lip service about how much they really care about these things.

A spokesperson for the Baltimore Ravens said they were also really upset a second video had emerged.

“This is so inconvenient for us and makes us all feel terrible about our running game.”
