Luke Darcy’s gloves are a national disgrace
Channel Seven’s coverage this year has tested even the most patient AFL fan.
There’s been the refusal to show the footy in high definition, the ‘Megawall’ and Brian Taylor.
We’ve also had Bruce constantly telling us that he feels the next goal may be important and Wayne Carey and Richo awkwardly interviewing coaches on the ground while struggling to walk at the same time.
It makes even the most passionate fan wonder what they’ve done wrong to deserve all this.
On Saturday night’s pre-game show, we finally crossed the line where we must all say ‘no, this will not stand.’
Luke Darcy wore leather gloves.
On television.
“Say that again,” you ask.
Leather gloves
“Wait, was it snowing? Were the other presenters wearing some sought of thermal wear too? Perhaps one of those fur hats they wear in Siberia.”
The answer, my fellow footy fans is no. It was simply a case of a grown man deciding he could not tough it out.
The reaction was swift, his fellow presenters mocked him and social media exploded.
Luke, if you’re reading this, the people are right to mock you.
Leather gloves are a gateway drug that leads to other dangerous clothing items like berets.
What sort of message does it send to children watching when they see a grown man wearing gloves?
I’ll tell you what kind, the worst, an un-Australian message.
The only time gloves are appropriate is in Antarctica and space. That’s it.
Channel Seven need to fix this. Footy fans deserve high definition and gloveless presenters.
Let us hope something like Saturday night never happens again.
